For many decades absorbance methods of detection have been employed with numerous types of assays, among which include  DNA/Protein ratio (260/280 nm); Bradford (595nm), BCA (592nm) and Lowery (750nm) protein concentration determination; NADH and NADPH conversion (340nm); and ELISA assays (400-500nm, usually 450 nm). Herein we describe the application of these established absorbance methods on the new Omega Series of multifunctional microplate readers. This instrument has a unique high speed (<1 sec/well), full UV/Vis (220-850nm) spectrometer for absorbance readings. The Omega can perform these absorbance assays, as well as assays never before thought possible in a microplate reader!
