Many pharmaceutical and biotech companies embark on automation projects focusing on storage and retrieval of chemical compounds. Money is secured, and automation companies are evaluated. After kick-off project timelines are created, and adjusted during the design, development and implementation phases. Minimal time and effort is spent planning how to transfer compounds stored in from non-standard containers to robot friendly vials. Transferring hundred's of thousands compounds is a daunting task, with proper planning the reformatting project can easily be completed on time.
